SHARING CIGARETTES

If you sell or give tobacco to a friend who is under the age of 19, you can be charged under Sections 3(1) or 3(2) of Ontario's Tobacco Control Act.

According to the Act, no person shall sell or supply tobacco to a person who is or appears to be less than 19 years of age.

You can receive a fine of $215.00 or a summons to appear in court.

SMOKING ON SCHOOL PROPERTY

According to Ontario Tobacco's Control Act, no person shall smoke tobacco or hold lighted tobacco anywhere on school property. Did you know you can receive a fine of $120.00 or a summons to appear in court if, for example:

you decide to step outside on school property to light up before your next class.

you hold lighted tobacco anywhere on school property;
or

you and your friends are sitting inside a vehicle anywhere on school property smoking or holding lighted tobacco?

Ontario's Tobacco Control act is being enforced by the City of Ottawa.
